Under the guidance of Ettore DiPilla, pictured, 50 Macedon Ranges artists have been trying their hand at glass art. The result is the exhibition Working Outside the Square which opens at Mad Gallery, Lancefield, on Sunday.
The artists range from musician Darryl Cotton to the creator of High Tide comic strip, Neil Matterson. Full Story, page 5.
Artists in a glass of their own
Woodend glass artist Ettore DiPilla is at the centre of a project to encourage artistic talent in the shire.
Over recent months, Mr. DiPilla has gathered creative thinkers from across the shire to try their hand at glass art and contribute to an exhibition titled Working Outside the Square.
Opening at Lancefield's Mad gallery this Sunday, the exhibition will feature the works of 50 artists from diverse backgrounds, including musician Darryl Cotton, clown Team Henderson and bronze sculptor Anton Hassell.
The works will be on sale for $75 each, with proceeds going to a talented young artist about to embark on tertiary studies.
"We all know how hard it is to become established in the art community and this project provides a chance for all established artists who wish to help out a younger artist," Mr. DiPilla said.
An added creative challenge of the project was for each artist to use a fused glass item of about 250mm diameter in the shape of a circle, square or triangle.
The name of the artist responsible for each piece won't be revealed util after purchases are made.
The exhibition will run from May 21 to June 14
